We land at Palermo and at the airport, generating a lot of curiosity, we try to assemble back our bicycles. We decide to avoid to ride in Palermo, being worried about the cahotic traffic, so we start to ride toward west through Cinisi and Terrasini and we stopped at Castellamare del Golfo. Here we easily find a room where to stay, and we find a good restaurant not far from the sea.
It is an amazing sunny day and after a great breakfast we ride up to Scopello. Here we leave our bikes and we walk through the “Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro“. It is a magic place, and here the sea is something special. We have time to swim. We have lunch at Scopello, and then we reach
Segesta riding within green hills, where the famous wine “Nero D’Avola” is produced. Segesta temple is very impressive and we stay here for a while. We then ride back to Castellamare where we have another great fish based dinner.
We are entering the fall season, but weather here in Sicily is hot and sunny. We ride, through lovely hills up to Valderice, with a beautiful landscape, dominated by San Vito lo Capo rocks and by Erice Erice on top of the mountain. At Valderice we find a good B&B, and we visit the town, so close to Erice and Trapani. We eat some special “arancini di riso” and we rest soon to prepare the climb to San Vito lo Capo scheduled for the next day.
We ride toward the nord, to reach San Vito lo Capo. When we reach it, we realize that the “cous cous festival” ended the day before, so we miss some special food. However the afternoon spent on the beach is something very good. We then ride back to Valderice to prepare the climb to Erice.
It is an amazing day. We ride in the morning up to Erice, reaching the beatiful town after a crazy climb. The landscape is something that can’t be described. Erice is something special, with narrow street within the historic town. And we can’t miss the famous “genovesi”. We then have an exciting slope to come back to Valderice, and from here we reach Trapani and then, by boat, Favignana. The island is beaufull and although we are a bit tired, we find energy to ride around. We then look for a place where to stay, and we easily find a good B&B. We are very tired, but we can’t miss a great dinner. And then we early go to sleep.
Today we decide to relax a bit and we reach by boat Marettimo, one of the 3 Egadi islands. Marettimo is so nice and quiet that we love it istantaneously. We rarely have seen a so exciting sea and we decide to take a little fish boat to turn around the island. Then we would like to climb up to the Castle, but there is no time and we have to come back to Favignana. Here we just ride few miles to visit some nice corner of the island.
This is the last day in Sicily, and we early come back to Trapani where we find a nice room in an hotel within the historic center of the city. We eat some special dessert visiting “Pasticceria Colicchia“, an amazing place where we also love the kindness of mister Franco, the owner. We then ride up to Marsala, stopping at “Museo del Sale“.
We relax a bit in Marsala and then we ride back to Trapani, where we eat another special slice of cassata cake from Pasticceria Colicchia. We then prepare our luggage because tomorrow we have to take a train to come back to Palermo, and from there, to fly back to Pavia. Thanks Sicily, we loved you so much…
